Smeared and Smudged February Blog Hop Cracked and Broken

2/19/2015

Hi, my friends!  This month's hop theme is "Cracked and Broken" at Smeared and Smudged.  I had 2 ideas for separate things that I have had hanging around here for months.  And they came together in my head for this theme!  It is a shaker box filled with cracked, red glass.  The red glass came from a wonderful lamp that I was totally  pissed when it broke but immediately thought pieces of a broken heart.  Oh, the maze of a crafter's mind!  The red riding hood image had been completed made from a makeup kit box that had a little window.  But she was just incomplete waiting for something.  And the glass was it.  My connection to the theme is that sometimes our tough exteriors come from broken pieces of ourselves...be it heart, image, whatever.  Deep thought for me, huh?  She is colored with Bic Mark Its and the background is scrapbook paper from the "Once Upon a Time" stack and the edges were inked with black and brown markers in places.  I colored the clear plastic inside of the window with a brown marker not going for full or even coverage....our insides or not evenly colored at least I don't think so:)  The sentiment is from Tim  Holthz's alphabet pad stuck on white paper and inked.  Then a hammer and a napkin and breaking the glass in small pieces to add!  Another simple project but this one took a couple months from start to finish.   Off to our next blog and leave some love...it keeps the wrinkles away from crafter's faces!  True fact!  No, not really but wouldn't it be great!

Happy crafting!

Left of Center Design Team Project for Challenge #64 Lacey Sunshine Theme "Glamorous Girls" Late Post:(

Time for a new challenge at Left of Center and our fabulous sponsors are Lacey Sunshine with the theme "Glamorous Girls".  I loved the Victorian lovely image and colored here with Bic Mark Its, Promarkers, and Distress Markers.  The DCVW stack "Once Upon a Time" is so amazing!  I have used it soooo much!  I used it as the background piece edging everything with brushed corduroy distress ink. I used another piece from the DCVW stack in purple, a pink inked and distressed, and burgandy shape paper embossed with the same folder.  I fussy cut the image and put it on foam dots on top of the papers.  Another challenge from last month had an amazing twist to it to use a quote from Winnie the Pooh...yep, you read it right...Winnie the Pooh!  I almost cried reading the quote I used...ahhh so sweet!  I printed it in Photoshop and free hand cut it out and inked it in a purple ink with the brushed corduroy ink then used foam pop dots to attach it.  The flower on the bottom is made from the same purple paper from the stack.  I used a bead which has a lovely purple tone to it as the center for some reason...maybe the photographer! it came out brownish on the photo

Evil Alice Left of Center Design Team Project for Challenge #65 Sponsored by Simply Betty Stamps

New week at Left of Center Challenges!  This week we are sponsored by the fabulous Simply Betty Stamps and she had one of my favorites...Wicked Alice!!  The theme this week is lost love and although I personally wouldn't want to cross this evil little Alice...I found an Alice quote that seemed very fitting for this theme.  I typed the quote in Photo Shop and printed on a DP from a Halloween stack.  The "canvas" of this project is a humble cereal box!  Yep, they make fabulous canvases.  I coated this one with black Tulip puffy paint just for some texture and got the added benefit when I heated it with my heat gun to quicken the drying process of it bubbling up and puffing slightly where I had layered it thicker.  Loved the effect!  My bow ( bows are my nemesis!!) is some lace seam binding dyed with aged mahogany distress ink pad mixed with some alcohol..was too lazy to find my water bottle! and crumpled the lace in the pool of color and let dry.  It dried very quickly!  I used it for the bow which I added some little burgandy mini roses and a stick pin I made with a plastic heart bead that I painted black with a sharpie maker and added some coordinating glass beads from my stash.  The little black heart started as a pink plastic heart from a bag intended to be table decorations I think and I put embossing glue on the heart and used black embossing powder and heated with heat gun.  I was careful due to the plastic heart but again really liked the results.  The die cut heart behind her I cut a broken line through and then sewed by hand a zig zag stitch for the lost love.  I picked up some little doilies at Michael's and in real life the colors all are a deeper hue and these fit in well.  I backed the bottom of the image with a harlequin pattern Halloween paper in black and purple.   Some burlap paper with the backing removed and frayed some and some of the lace around the "canvas" a couple of times and colored with Bick Mark Its and Evil Alice is staring at you!   I am in love with my handmade enamel dots made from melted beads so I added 3 to the heart.  Beware..... she is watching you!  I think she wants you to come  join us at Left of Center and win some great images from Simply Betty's Stamps and a badge....call some friends and see who wins!  We are waiting to see your wonderful creations!
Happy crafting!!

Left of Center Challenge #66 The East Wind with Dies or Punches Design Team Card

2/13/2015

We at Left of Center are happy to have The East Wind stamps sponsoring this week's challenge with a theme of using dies or punches.  This image, "Twisted Venus Territorial",  I used just jumped at me to do something with it!  I used distress inks to blend into the background.  I played up the volcano, desolate part of the image.  I colored everything with Bic Mark Its, Promarkers, and distress markers.  I layered the temptress, apple, volcano, lava lake, black kitty, and portions of the tree using 3 layers of each.  I had the sentiment and inked it with red and black and the "Be Free!" seems to be what she is beckoning someone to do.  I would watch that apple....just saying!  I made the front of the card attach to a box on the background bottom page and foam tape at the top.  Layering the inked image cardstock on black cardstock.  I ran a ribbon trough the box around to the front and tied a bow in gold.  I used my Cricut to cut out a lock and key (skeleton key....hehehe!) and a poison bottle placing a glass bauble on the skull and crossbones.  Using tan paper and layering with black.  Now you know what to do.....so go grab that computer invite your friends and join the challenge at Left of Center this week!  You can win some fabulous images from The East Wind!  You won't regret it; we have a blast!

Well, last day of the hop!!  Loads of fabulous projects...ideas for some payback Valentine's Day gifts..hehehe!  No, of course not!  Today I am using another Smeared Ink image The Queen of Hearts and I cut Alice (ahhh:( out of the mirror/door way!  I colored again with my Chameleon's and remember still learning on them but loving them!  There are some colors on this card that are not Chameleon's; they are distress markers.  I layered the image on a Valentine's print cardstock and then on solid black inking edges in black.  I used the little hearts in the corners and filled and doodled in with a black distress marker and the sentiment which I edited a bit is from the same pack as the heart a dollar bin special at Michael's.  Hope you have enjoyed the hop and have left lots of love for all the bloggers!  Thanks for the kind comments!
Happy crafting and Happy Bloody/Regular Valentine's Day!!:)

Day 2 of Smeared and Smudged's Bloody Valentine Blog Hop

Leigh, I promise I am not copying your project...well I am but not planned!:)  I had this little room freshener thingy that originally came with these little square papers infused with fragrance that when pushed down on the little box it would light up and the aroma would be released.  Long story...sorry..and anyway I had the bright idea to stamp my own paper square for the hop.  I saw Leigh's fab one yesterday and thought I would not do mine for the hop but as usual I am running late and very tired so....alas I must use it now.  The key point is mine is nowhere near as fabulous as Leigh's!!  Also, this is not colored not because I am tired...honest! but because I stamped it in red distress ink and really like the look when it is lit in the dark!  The stamps are from Smeared Ink's Gargoyle set from last month (I think) and stamped on parchment paper.  Due to bad photography..surprise!! I am only showing 2 sides but I stamped all 4 sides.  Thanks for the comments today...lovely, lovely!
Happy crafting and go leave Jane some more love!

Here is my "tongue in cheek" card for the hop!  Not any blood or skin but a whole lot of bones giving some love.  I used a wonderful image from Smeared Ink and my new 10 Chameleon pens!  I am still learning with them but the possibilities are endless it seems with them!  Loving them so far and hope to get better with them.  The sentiment was made in Word document and layered on some dark Halloween paper and the image is on white cardstock inked in black layered on red cardstock edged in black.  Off you go to visit Jane and make sure you leave lots of love...it's Valentine's at Smeared and Smudged!!

Happy crafting!

Quoth the Raven Challenge #41 Design Team Project For the Love of Poe

2/5/2015

Picture
Welcome fellow Poe followers!  This month at Quoth the Raven Challenge blog our theme is "For the Love of Poe ( something Valentines or one of his lady loves).  In reading about the Master's life, I have discovered he loved deeply but with much tragedy in his love.  From his mother's death to his beloved wife Virginia's death, both due to tuberculosis, he wrote from both great love and great despair.  The above quote is from his poem titled "To _____ ________ _______" as the title suggests their were many prior to and after Virginia's death in his life.
I have used once again one of Ike's Art's fabulous images "Elenore" colored with Promarkers and Distress Markers then fussy cut and popped on some foam dots to stick out from the Cricut frame.  Another Poe fact is that he lived most of his life in poverty, I am an avid re-user of things most folks throw away.....so Poe and I may share a hoarding of useful stuff in common.  Don't quote me on that...just saying maybe:)  I used a black styrofoam meat tray as my frame for the scene.  I used a strip of acetate to pop the frame up from the back and my Cricut went to work!  I cut out the grave scene, the 2 tombstones, and the candle out of brown, tan, green, and red papers and layering.  I used Photoshop to edit the text onto a piece of black and white paper with light script running across it.  I inked everything, everything with black ink.  I inked both sides of the sentiment and curled the ends.  The grave scene and tombstones were attached to a strip of acetate and glued to the front edge of the meat tray.  Then all I had to do was adhere the candle to the sides and the text to the top of the frame.
Come on over to Quoth the Raven and tell your friends...see who can gain the Master's nod of approval!  We look forward to seeing all of your fabulous work!
Happy Crafting and Happy Valentine's Day!

Ike's World Challenge Entry Challenge #30 Sketch

2/1/2015

Back again with a fabulous image from Ike's Art and it is a freebie for this challenge which is a sketch challenge.    For the circles for the sketch I used mice/rats.  I layered them on foam dots at the corner of the page.  They are inked with a hint of the color of the mouse on the phone in the image.  I copied the image 4 times and colored all 4 images the same...I ran out of my favorite gray Bic Mark It so my mouse is sorta multi-hued:)  Then I trimmed it down 3 times layering each smaller size on top of the original image with foam tape.  I absolutely love how this turned out!  Not boasting but this is just a fun way to use an image!  I adhered the first image on some green card stock and that onto some card stock with antique typewriter keys on it after gluing two rows of tan music paper around the bottom piece.   The sentiment was stamped onto plain white card stock and layered onto the typewriter key paper.  And everything was inked with black ink.  Try this technique on an image today!  You will be hooked...promise!  And run do not walk! to Ike's World Challenges and grab this freebie and enter so you can have a wonderful badge and some of Ike's Art images!
Happy Crafting!
