First off let me thank each of you who participated at the Left of Center Challenge last week with The East Wind sponsored theme "Enchantress"! So many wonderful projects..wow! This week we are sponsored by Sami Stamps and I used the awesome Goth Girl as the focal piece of my canvas...yes, you heard right I used a real canvas this time...no cereal box (I still love you cereal boxes!) ! I found a fabulous piece of fabric bought years ago to make a purse and with the help of my unpaid art adviser (wink, wink! you genius, you!) turned it into a spider filled nightmare!
First, I sprayed adhesive to the canvas including the sides, and then stretched my fabric square (pre-cut for easier placement) on to the canvas. Then I adhered my colored image (Chameleon pens) that I had fussy cut where I wanted her to be placed. Then the fun/craziness began!! I added some super cool gem crusted fake eyelash pieces on her black eye shadowed eyes. Long, long lashes from a Halloween gig. I took deco mesh in dark navy and did my best to cut it to fit her top, very dicey bit of work! and glued it down with a clear glue. I also cut the hole for her shirt in the deco mesh after laying it on. Her hair has crackled accents on it for the grunge effect and dimensional magic on her eye shadow and lips. When that was dried I took a paint pen that the name had worn off of in black and went over every spider web line on the fabric. I doesn't show in the photos but textured it up very well. Then red paint for the black widow spiders eyes and or bottoms. I added a broken earring..sob! to the left corner by her hair and added red dots to those spiders...in one photo the long chain spider is hanging across her top and I love that. My son gave me a Dymo label maker that I have wanted for months last week so of course out came spiders with spiders on them labels! I tried to add some elements to the spiders on the labels and some doodle lines but the ink smeared; I will try a different method next time. I also found a 2 pack of faux washi tape at the dollar store with the caution tape and a roll of black for $2! I only used the caution and ran it across the ends of the spider labels. Of course the one full skeleton had to have some google eyes, you know me and google eyes! The right bottom embellishment was my attempt at a can top bracelet with black and gold ribbon (yes, Saints colors!) that went wrong but when flattened I liked the silver imperfect look to it. And of course real spiders or rather plastic spiders. I debated on painting them black and in retrospect I think I should have but to add some color to go with her lovely green skin I used them green. Popping one on the "flower" and then in the centers of the webs covering up the red paint but that was ok. I like it. I had a spider sticker and some half moons that I added and some eyelash ribbon kept peeking out of a box stuffed in my living room as we put a new floor in my craft room...ugh! so I added that to a corner and a broken plastic bracelet from a dreaded rival..don't guess it! went in the opposite corner. And of course her response to the impending danger? Whatever!! I had the most fun with this passing the stopping point several times but I kept finding things that I had to add! You know the drill...go get a friend and start working on spiders or go the Left of Center way,...do it and win that badge and lovely digis from Sami Stamps! A note about badges: we have added a Design Team Member's Spotlight pick where each Design Team member picks a technique, feature, etc. that they like and that entrant gets a special new badge! Awesome, right! And now more chances to be recognized for your amazing work!! Happy Crafing and get your spiders on! Entered: http://www.ikesworldchallengeblog.blogspot.com/ I have worked on 2 projects for this challenge one because I won a fab digi from Ike's Art last challenge and had to use it and the freebie image for this challenge just had to be used! Here they are (deets) are basically colored with Chameleon pens and sentiments from Photo Shop and some scrapbook paper and glue!
Hi, my friends! This month's hop theme is "Cracked and Broken" at Smeared and Smudged. I had 2 ideas for separate things that I have had hanging around here for months. And they came together in my head for this theme! It is a shaker box filled with cracked, red glass. The red glass came from a wonderful lamp that I was totally pissed when it broke but immediately thought pieces of a broken heart. Oh, the maze of a crafter's mind! The red riding hood image had been completed made from a makeup kit box that had a little window. But she was just incomplete waiting for something. And the glass was it. My connection to the theme is that sometimes our tough exteriors come from broken pieces of ourselves...be it heart, image, whatever. Deep thought for me, huh? She is colored with Bic Mark Its and the background is scrapbook paper from the "Once Upon a Time" stack and the edges were inked with black and brown markers in places. I colored the clear plastic inside of the window with a brown marker not going for full or even coverage....our insides or not evenly colored at least I don't think so:) The sentiment is from Tim Holthz's alphabet pad stuck on white paper and inked. Then a hammer and a napkin and breaking the glass in small pieces to add! Another simple project but this one took a couple months from start to finish. Off to our next blog and leave some love...it keeps the wrinkles away from crafter's faces! True fact! No, not really but wouldn't it be great!

I loved the Victorian lovely image and colored here with Bic Mark Its, Promarkers, and Distress Markers. The DCVW stack "Once Upon a Time" is so amazing! I have used it soooo much! I used it as the background piece edging everything with brushed corduroy distress ink. I used another piece from the DCVW stack in purple, a pink inked and distressed, and burgandy shape paper embossed with the same folder. I fussy cut the image and put it on foam dots on top of the papers. Another challenge from last month had an amazing twist to it to use a quote from Winnie the Pooh...yep, you read it right...Winnie the Pooh! I almost cried reading the quote I used...ahhh so sweet! I printed it in Photoshop and free hand cut it out and inked it in a purple ink with the brushed corduroy ink then used foam pop dots to attach it. The flower on the bottom is made from the same purple paper from the stack. I used a bead which has a lovely purple tone to it as the center for some reason...maybe the photographer! it came out brownish on the photo

Happy Crafting and run but be very careful there is snow and rain and mopped floors..okay, don't run but walk briskly and safely to our challenges!:) Evil Alice Left of Center Design Team Project for Challenge #65 Sponsored by Simply Betty Stamps2/13/2015 New week at Left of Center Challenges! This week we are sponsored by the fabulous Simply Betty Stamps and she had one of my favorites...Wicked Alice!! The theme this week is lost love and although I personally wouldn't want to cross this evil little Alice...I found an Alice quote that seemed very fitting for this theme. I typed the quote in Photo Shop and printed on a DP from a Halloween stack. The "canvas" of this project is a humble cereal box! Yep, they make fabulous canvases. I coated this one with black Tulip puffy paint just for some texture and got the added benefit when I heated it with my heat gun to quicken the drying process of it bubbling up and puffing slightly where I had layered it thicker. Loved the effect! My bow ( bows are my nemesis!!) is some lace seam binding dyed with aged mahogany distress ink pad mixed with some alcohol..was too lazy to find my water bottle! and crumpled the lace in the pool of color and let dry. It dried very quickly! I used it for the bow which I added some little burgandy mini roses and a stick pin I made with a plastic heart bead that I painted black with a sharpie maker and added some coordinating glass beads from my stash. The little black heart started as a pink plastic heart from a bag intended to be table decorations I think and I put embossing glue on the heart and used black embossing powder and heated with heat gun. I was careful due to the plastic heart but again really liked the results. The die cut heart behind her I cut a broken line through and then sewed by hand a zig zag stitch for the lost love. I picked up some little doilies at Michael's and in real life the colors all are a deeper hue and these fit in well. I backed the bottom of the image with a harlequin pattern Halloween paper in black and purple. Some burlap paper with the backing removed and frayed some and some of the lace around the "canvas" a couple of times and colored with Bick Mark Its and Evil Alice is staring at you! I am in love with my handmade enamel dots made from melted beads so I added 3 to the heart. Beware..... she is watching you! I think she wants you to come join us at Left of Center and win some great images from Simply Betty's Stamps and a badge....call some friends and see who wins! We are waiting to see your wonderful creations!

This image, "Twisted Venus Territorial", I used just jumped at me to do something with it! I used distress inks to blend into the background. I played up the volcano, desolate part of the image. I colored everything with Bic Mark Its, Promarkers, and distress markers. I layered the temptress, apple, volcano, lava lake, black kitty, and portions of the tree using 3 layers of each. I had the sentiment and inked it with red and black and the "Be Free!" seems to be what she is beckoning someone to do. I would watch that apple....just saying! I made the front of the card attach to a box on the background bottom page and foam tape at the top. Layering the inked image cardstock on black cardstock. I ran a ribbon trough the box around to the front and tied a bow in gold. I used my Cricut to cut out a lock and key (skeleton key....hehehe!) and a poison bottle placing a glass bauble on the skull and crossbones. Using tan paper and layering with black. Now you know what to do.....so go grab that computer invite your friends and join the challenge at Left of Center this week! You can win some fabulous images from The East Wind! You won't regret it; we have a blast! Happy Crafting! Entered: http://a-step-in-the-darkness.blogspot.com/ A Step in the Darkness #15 |
